Our family is the owner of a 2 1/2 year old Newfy named Murphy. We first discovered this breed when my son was in boy scout camp a few years back and I was called late at night by their nurse. She thought my son might have sprained his ankle and gave me directions to their infirmary so I could pick him up. Upon my arrival at this "shack in the woods!" I opened the door to see my son in one bed and a huge black dog in the other. I was immediately intrigued and asked all sorts of questions. She told me all about their wonderful qualities, and how Barclay spent the days at the waterfront keeping an eye on all the boys. When we got home later that night (my son in a cast!) I told my husband about the dog. Was I surprised when he told me to look into them more. So within a few months we visited a local Newfy Club event and spoke to the breeders. And that's my long winded story of how we got our beloved puppy. Although my extended family, guests, and neighbors think we are crazy, we are totally in love with him and his funny ways. He sleeps in our tub, (his snoring chamber since it echoes so well), has eaten almost all our landscaping, "redecorated" our walls and furniture with his drool and his fur , and generally made our new house very high maintenance. But I wouldn't have it any other way. Again, I'm so glad I stumbled on this site. I don't use the internet too much but today my search paid off. I hope to spend a lot of time here warming my heart with all these stories. ThanksIP: Logged |

Hi and Welcome! It hasn't been that long since I joined in. Your description of your Murphy's antics made me laugh. I know just what you mean, . Molly has also done some of these things. Please, please tell me more about Murphy's sleeping in the tub?? How did this come about? I think it's SO funny, but logical. Where else would be be surrounded by COOL enamel or whatever they're made of these days. Nice to meet you!! Linda IP: Logged |

Murph's been hopping in the tub at night since he could jump in on his own. I'm sure it's because it's the coolest place in the house other then the concrete floor in the laundry room. He won't use the tub if someone has recently taken a shower and it's still wet, or if there is a bottle of shampoo that may have fallen off the shelf and is "in his way". The tub is one of the fiberglass wall units that you see everywhere. But the thing that drives us even more crazy other than the snoring is the fact that he has to "prepare" the tub. By this I mean he gets in and then scratches and scratches until it's just right, in his opinion. For some reason there's no sign of harm to the tub thank goodness or it would have been in need of replacement after the first night. This is just the noisiest habit and usually it takes place about midnight when he wakes up from his deep sleep in some doorway and realizes that his family has gone upstairs. So he tends to wake us all up with his tub ritual but we have gradually learned to sleep through it too. IP: Logged |

Welcome. I love the stories about your newf in the tub and how he redecorated your house with slim and hair. We are in the process of remodeling a house and I am trying to newf proof it. Slate floor so they will not slip and it is water proof, leather couch so the hair will not stick to it and I can clean the drool off. Paneling on the lower part of the walls with wallpaper on the top. When I was choosing the wallpaper I brought the book home. Samantha drooled all over the sample page that I liked. I let it dry then wiped it off to see if it was drool proof and it was!!!Again welcome to newf net ------------------ Jeannie and the rescues Sara, Samantha and Panda www.newfland.com IP: Logged |

This is really strange, Rory does this too. It's like she's scratching up a nest or something. She used to jump in and sleep there more when she was younger but now only jumps in and out on occassions. Sometimes you walk in and find it streaked with pawprints and mudmarks and see a trail of paw prints out the door and down the hall onto the carpet...oh the joys of Newfies. Welcome to Newf_Net! This is just too funny.... this is one I had never heard before. Now nesting, that one I'm quite familiar with. Jeannie, good idea! Newfproof wallpaper. A girlfriend of mine has a leather sofa and loves it. She cleans it up easily. I was afraid claws would go through it, but she's had it for several years now and it still looks really good.
